This seminar will give an overview of what PoE means, the current state of the technology and how it can be deployed in the context of LED lighting.

We will explore in detail how PoE nodes can be used to power and control luminaires as well as what some of the trade-offs are when converting conventional LED luminaires to a PoE-based approach. There will also be an analysis of what the current limitations and benefits of this technology are.

Finally, some recommendations will be made for the successful deployment of a PoE project in the context of integrating lighting.

SPEAKER | Michael Simla, CTO @ LumenWerx

Michael Simla is the Chief Technology Officer for LumenWerx ULC. Michael embarked on a lighting career immediately after he graduated from \ McGill University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Michael began his career with Future Electronics. Submerging himself into lighting and honing his skills, Michael soon caught the attention of the soon to be founder of LumenWerx, Morris Feldman. Michael was asked to join the team and head up the technology division in 2014. Michael’s passion has assisted in LumenWerx becoming one of the fastest-growing lighting manufacturers in North America.

Michael’s innovation has contributed to LumenWerx having products featured in the IES progress report each year from 2015 to 2019, with 12 products in total. In 2018, Michael was selected by the IALD top 40under40 and the only manufacturer to make the list.
